Google Gemini’s New “Scheduled Actions” Turns It into a Smarter, More Proactive Assistant

Google has introduced new enhancements to its Gemini AI assistant, including support for scheduled actions and a convenient swipe gesture for accessing Gemini Live. The latest update, announced following Google I/O 2025, signals the company’s continued effort to stay competitive in the rapidly evolving AI space, particularly against rivals like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

With the new scheduled actions feature, Gemini users can now automate tasks to run at specific times. Whether it’s setting up recurring reminders, receiving daily summaries of unread emails, or getting live updates on topics like sports or calendar events, the AI assistant is now equipped to handle personalized routines more efficiently. Users can also modify recurring tasks, allowing for dynamic updates without needing to recreate prompts from scratch. However, this functionality is currently limited to users subscribed to Google AI Pro or Gemini Ultra, as well as select Google Workspace business and education plans. Google has yet to confirm any limits on the number of active scheduled tasks, or whether existing tasks can be paused or removed, as is the case with ChatGPT.

In addition to scheduled actions, Google is making it easier for users to interact with Gemini Live. Instead of tapping a button to activate the feature, users can now simply swipe from the right edge of the screen to the left to launch it. This gesture-based shortcut offers a more seamless experience, aligning with modern user interface trends that prioritize speed and accessibility.

Google also revealed that an upgraded preview of Gemini 2.5 Pro is on the way. Building on the previously released 2.5 Pro model, the new version promises improved performance, especially in areas like code generation and problem-solving. These updates reflect Google’s broader strategy of enhancing Gemini to make it a more capable and user-friendly AI platform.

With the introduction of scheduled actions and an intuitive gesture-based control, Gemini is becoming more proactive and interactive, pushing forward Google’s vision of an AI-powered future.
